Creating The Life You WANT: Vision Board
5 Reasons we should create a Vision Board for Fitness.
Have you ever read the book The Secret? The Secret is an extremely inspirational bit of literature that focuses solely on putting out positive energy and uplifting thoughts into the universe to receive goodness throughout life.
Just as Life Coaches encourage us to create vision boards and write down essential plans for our life’s goals, it is a great practice to apply this to your fitness regime. It is as much about positive thoughts and visualized goals as it is about working out and essentially eating healthy.
We all have our personal vision of what our bodies should look like. We all aspire to fit into something by a specific time, or to be able to run that five mile marathon, so why not really physically visualize your goals? Here are 5 solid tips to help you do just that!
1. Take a picture that will help you through your journey and attach a goal date to it.
This is great because it gives you a time frame in which you should achieve your goals by. It’s somewhat like that end of term project that your professor gives you at the beginning of the semester. You know that it is due on the day of your final, so you work diligently at it during the entire semester. Time constraints are very important.
2. Do you have a favorite person, or mentor that embodies everything you would like to be?
Maybe you are the biggest fan of some awesome celebrity or even someone that you personally know and interact with on a daily basis. If you have a picture of this person, It’s a great idea to have something at hand that reminds you constantly of this person so that it motivates you to stay focused on your goal.
3. Write down why you want to reach your specific goal.
Look deep down into yourself and find your biggest reason why you should really follow your heart and begin reaching your goals. Maybe that reason is that you may want to be able to freely run around with your kids without losing your breath, or you might have had a pre existing condition that could be alleviated if you started taking steps to leading a healthier life. Maybe you just want to look great in any article of clothing without be constantly conscious of how you look. Whatever your reason may be, it is a good idea to get it out of your mind. Sometimes it helps to see this affirmation on paper, or on your computer or mobile phone. It really helps to begin by telling your self the truth.
4. Use your phone/computer/tablet.
Which one do you use most? Do you use all of them at once like a great deal of people do? It is very effective to set your goal as a screen saver so that you are constantly reminded of what you want or what is important. It definitely helps to deter one from having that extra slice of pizza if they have a picture of someone rock hard abs as a phone screensaver.
5. Create a collage of all these things.
Create a collage of pictures of your why, your mentor’s picture, a great quote and a goal date. Having this easily accessible will definitely help you to be more focused and push you to stick to your plans. This act of creating a vision board is proven to be an extremely successful move. You can create this with paper, and magazines and such or you can do it digitally on your favorite electronic device of choice. However you decide to have this collage done, what’s important is that it is somewhere that you can have easy access to it. Make sure that even if you are at your favorite restaurant you can simply glance at you “vision board” and make a healthy choice rather than order the entire menu.
